I have been drinking matcha now for about 5 years or so and I absolutely love it!! I especially love it made as a latte with hot almond milk (or your milk of choice, especially good with coconut or cashew milk) and some cinnamon sprinkled on top.
Matcha is a powdered green tea that has been at the heart of the Japanese tea ceremony for over 900 years. It has been revered as a "health elixir" by the Zen Buddhist monks, for it's ability to heighten concentration and enhance metabolism.
Matcha tea is rich in antioxidants, polyphenols and catechins, which may help to prevent cancer. In fact it has up to five times more antioxidants than regular green tea. It is supportive to our immune system, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal systems, as it's compounds are known to fight bacterial, fungal and viral infections.
Matcha is energising while at the same time it has a deeply calming effect on the body, due to the amino acid, L-theanine, which has anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) effects.
Always ensure to buy good quality organic matcha from a reputable source.
As with all good things though, it is best consumed in moderation!
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
(or milk of your choice)
1/2 tsp organic matcha powder
1/2 tsp honey, if desired
Warm the milk in a saucepan. Mix the matcha with some hot water to form a paste, then gradually add in some milk. Mix the milk and the paste and blend in a high speed blender for 30 seconds. Pour into your cup and sprinkle with cinnamon. Sweeten with honey if desired.
